It is a generic name for the federal agency (ANVISA) that regulates and oversees drug, safety, and medical equipment in Brazil, as well as similar agencies at the state and city levels that do much of its field work, as well as things like overseeing the cleanliness of hospitals and the hygiene of bars and restaurants. There are conflicting reports about whether Gabriela Ferreira went to a hospital or to the city's health authority offices, but I find the former to be more likely for a working-class Brazilian woman with little formal education, who probably wouldn't even know whom to notify. Health agencies certainly participated in the screening and cleanup efforts at a later stage anyway, and this may be the source of the confusion.Goytá F. Villela Jr.noreply@blogger.com
